Straight Talk APN Settings

If you’re looking for a comprehensive guide on how to change your Straight Talk APN Settings, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve included a step by step instruction to programming your mobile device with the correct data network configurations.

Straight Talk is a so called mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). This means they don’t have their own network, but rent space on the network of a larger network (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Sprint and so on). When considering a mobile data plan from an MVNO like Straight Talk you best check the coverage at the places where you spend most time. Another thing to verify is the radio system on your phone. If you’re switching carriers, you’ll need to check whether your device is working on the CDMA or GSM network. The major mobile network providers are either CDMA or GSM. This means that if you have a phone issued by Verizon, you won’t be able to connect to the mobile network with your AT&T SIM card.

Straight Talk is running on either the AT&T or T-Mobile network. As such there are two versions of the providers Access Point Names. We’ve included both versions in the tables below:

APN Values if your device is running on an AT&T Network:

APN Values if your device is running on a T-Mobile Network:

[table id=8 /]

The providers offers more options to change the network settings. Below you’ll find two more methods.

Method 1: APN Settings for Straight Talk sent through SMS

You can update your settings by simply sending a text to a specific number. Text APN to 611611. If you are already a subscriber to their service, accessing their website lets you input your Operating System and Handset Manufacturer to get very detailed programming instructions.

Method 2: Straight Talk Network Access Code and More through Downloadable Application

Another good way to change your data settings in an automated way is the downloadable application available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, named Straight Talk Data Settings. It is free of charge and easy to install. You just have to approve the special permissions on your device, and you should be good to go. Bring Your Own Phone customers will appreciate such a straightforward method they can use anytime and anywhere.

What Are The Straight Talk APN Settings?

The correct Straight Talk APN values on your phone are a condition for enabling mobile data on your phone or tablet. Through the APN values your device is able to connect with the right mobile network. As an MVNO, Straight Talk is compatible with the mobile network of the four major carriers: T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. If you have a phone that is locked to one of these carriers, make sure to program your APN settings accordingly. If you’re bringing your own phone from a carrier other than the ones mentioned here, you should unlock your phone first. Your Straight Talk mobile data and MMS will otherwise not work properly. Check our guide for the step by step instructions.

How To Update Your Straight Talk APN Settings

Straight Talk is one of the more technologically savvy MVNO’s in the industry. They employ not just one, but two automated methods that help you update Straight Talk Access Point Names. Make sure to check the carrier of your phone (if you bring your own phone) and to set the APN values in accordance to the carrier’s network. This can be either Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile or AT&T.

Are Straight Talk Phones Unlocked?

f you buy a phone that is included in one of the Straight Talk plans, it will be locked to Straight Talk. However, as an MVNO they don’t have their own network. Instead  they use the towers of the 4 major carriers, without the costs for building or maintaining them. So if you would like to switch to one of these carriers in the future, you don’t need to worry about your phone being locked to Straight Talk.

Sraight Talk Coverage and Internet Speed

Straight Talk is an interesting collaboration between America Movil’s TracFone and Walmart. Their service offers both CDMA and GSM support. These two mobile technology standards are supported by different networks: Verizon and Sprint for CDMA networks and T-Mobile and AT&T for GSM networks. This results in a nation wide coverage. The coverage can be different depending on the carrier network they use in your region. Make sure to check the coverage for the places you spend most time. Another thing to consider is the Internet Speed. Straight Talk’s monthly plans range from $30 limited, $35, $45, and $55 unlimited plans, complete with a $60 option for international calling. You should be aware that ‘unlimited’ plans come at a price: through the high data demand the internet speed will slow down. So, if you want high speed and need a lot of data: choose the 60 USD plan with 10GB data. If you require high speed but don’t need that much data (because your using your phone mainly for emails for example), go for the high speed 30 USD plan. With the unlimited plan you can use all the data you want and need, but you need to be patient since it can get quite slow at times.
